Beaudry and Roy lead Kenora with 34.12 lb after a 9.40 kicker.
A late-afternoon 9.40-pound walleye on Lake of the Woods rewrote the day-one board and set up a Sunday showdown.
The scales at Kenora had all but settled when Marc Beaudry and Louise Roy idled back to the ramp with one more fish in the livewell. Minutes later it hit the board at 9.40 pounds — the big walleye of the day and the heaviest kicker weighed on the trail this season.
The final hour
The team had spent the morning on a main-lake reef for a limit that kept them mid-pack. The pattern changed when they slid shallow onto a wind-blown point in the last hour and put the day’s biggest fish in the boat.
We had our five and figured we were fishing for a cheque. That last one changed the whole weekend.
Marc Beaudry
The 9.40 anchored a 34.12-pound bag and moved the team from outside the cut into the day-one lead, a little over two pounds clear of the field.
